Tagging
is an open and informal method of categorizing that allows users to
associate keywords with online content (webpages, pictures &
posts). Unlike library subject cataloging, which follows a strict set
of guidelines (i.e.Library of Congress subject headings), tagging is
completely unstructured and freeform, allowing users to create
connections between data anyway they want.
The following video will provide an overview of tagging and show how it is used in the two sites we will be exploring this week. For the best quality, download the video (11.1 MB) from our Web site. Alternatively, you can watch the below YouTube video, but the quality is not as good.
